They say birth order effects many aspects of our lives. Oldest children are more intelligent, middle children are conflicted, youngest are manipulative and needy. My children seem determined to challenge the best labels of modern psychiatry.
#5: You're a big baby. (As he is chasing #7 through the house)
#7: I am not a baby. (He vehemently defends his big boy status.)
#5: You are to a big baby( He catches #7, fist raised.)
#7: I am Mom's baby, you can't hurt me. (He cleverly adapts the label to fit his needs.)
#5: You are not a baby! You're a big boy and I'm gonna punch you for bugging me! (Ah ha, big brother can re-label on the fly too.)
Hmm, obviously neither one struggles with intelligence, the fighting would indicate that both of them are conflicted and they each have mad manipulation skills...
One things for certain, all the sibling rivalry and birth order issue confusion is gonna put me into therapy.
Hope we all survive the next three months of stuck in the house, winter weather.

Yeah, good luck with that one:)
Ha! According to birth order theories, I should have three first-borns. (My oldest, then my next daughter is seven years younger, and then a first-born son.) Scary! LOL
I read a birthorder book once several years ago, and saw that for me I am the oldest child, while in fact I am second, but because of situations I took on that role, but in other ways I am very much the 2nd child. Love it! (sing song voice...)
I have a friend who had twins who never told anyone which came first because one would be the middle child while the other would be the baby - and she was intent on disproving the birthorder thing (I think its cuz she was the baby....) long story short - she finally told us 13 years later who came first - and they TOTALLY fit the profile!! so even though the only ones who knew were the parents it still happened!
Hee hee! I did a post on birth order a while back, also debunking the theory--but I have to say, your field examples of said de-bunking are much more convincing!
Blessings!
Oh, the joys of having boys ! As for birth order, most times in my experience, it doesn't hold water !
